Guntur: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Tuesday launched Facial Recognition System (FRS) to log staff’s attendance and cut down time taken to record attendance. The move is also expected to make staff of the civic body join their duties on time.
The FRS is being implemented through a mobile application. The officers and their deputies will have access to the mobile app to register the staff’s attendance.
Based on feedback from field level officials that technical glitches in bio-metric devices were delaying attendance capturing, GMC decided to implement to FRS.
“We have introduced FRS for sanitation staff,” said GMC commissioner C Anuradha. She said the system will be implemented in GMC offices for regular employees. She said the new method will save time in registering attendance as the present tools are delaying the work. “Since FRS will take only a few seconds to take the attendance, it will not make the workers wait for their turn,” she said.
GMC is also planning to use technology for garbage collection. Two years ago, GMC had fixed Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tags to all households. The implementation was put on hold due to protests by the staff. Reviving the old project, the commissioner said the RFID model would ensure 100% garbage collection from the households.
The workers will be given the RFID enabled tabs with which they have to scan the tags fixed to the households during their visit to collect garbage.
This will leave no room for not collecting garbage from any household. The commissioner asked the officials to ensure the supply of tabs to the staff so that they can start scanning RFID tags.
