VIJAYAWADA: In what appears to be an indication of growing hegemony of TDP leaders in the state, even government officials are being made to run from pillar to post seeking justice in the corridors of power as the police are in the grip of ruling party satraps who are virtually running the administration. The influence of ruling party leaders in the government is so overwhelming that even the police officials are given the short shrift when they come up with genuine grievances.
The case in point is the saga of Kankipadu inspector M Ram Kumar who initially found it difficult to lodge a complaint with the Two Town police stating that four persons had grabbed his land with the support of TDP leaders. It is another thing that his complaint was received after the intervention of city commissioner of police.
Ram Kumar, who has been fighting for justice for over three years now, revealed that four TDP leaders barged into his house with their henchmen on last Monday and forced his mother to leave the premises.
However, the II Town police failed to register a case even after he produced all documents, public utility bills and property tax payment receipts to prove that he is the owner of the house. An ACP level officer is said to have bowed to the pressures and tried to settle the matter.
When the issue came to the notice of city police commissioner Damodar Gautam Sawang on Wednesday, he is learnt to have reprimanded the II Town police for being negligent in filing the case. After the drubbing, the police registered a case against the four accused under sections 347, 354 (b) and 506 of IPC and the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. All the four were arrested and produced in court on Thursday.
The alleged land-grabbers were identified as Tammina Krishna, Tammina Durgamba, Tammina Babu Rao and Nagothu Suresh. They were charged with trespassing into the property of Ram Kumar worth over Rs 20 lakh at KL Rao Nagar in Chittinagar are of the city. The property was inherited by the police inspector from his father.
"The the lower court and the district court ordered the accused to hand over the land to us but they are reluctant and influenced all police officials not to receive my complaint when I approached them. Being a police officer myself, I never imagined my own complaint would be rejected by my colleagues. It's pathetic to think that a police inspector could not get justice in his own department," rued the Kankipadu police inspector.
When contacted, city police commissioner Gautam Sawang said all the accused four are claiming that they are very close to an elected representative and after verifying all the house records we registered a case on them under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act and other sections.
"No one is above law. We have initiated strong action against the accused and investigation is on to establish their alleged relationship with the TDP leader," said Gautam Sawang.
He further warned all police officials with severe action if they failed to register a case against the political leaders if they are found guilty.
In another case two days ago, Bhavanipuram police faced the ire of two TDP leaders when they arrested Gollapudi panchayat vice-president Chigurupati Nagaraju and two others K Venkata Suryanarayana Rao and Anne Venkata Krishna Rao for allegedly demolishing a wall causing inconvenience to the public. "Emboldened by the support of TDP leaders, rowdy elements owing allegiance to the ruling party are having a free run," said a Bhavanipuram police official.
