Vijayawada: The ruling
TDP on Tuesday trained its guns on former chief minister and YSRCP president Y S
Jagan Mohan Reddy ahead of his proposed visit to the Juvvaladinne fishing harbour on Wednesday, alleging that the project was stalled during the tenure of his late father, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The minister for revenue, registration and stamps, Anagani Satya Prasad, questioned the intent behind the visit, asking "with what face" Jagan was returning to Juvvaladinne. While his father was responsible for stopping Ramayapatnam port and the harbour to protect the interests of Krishnapatnam port and the agreement made by the govt.
Anagani said the project gained momentum only after the TDP came to power in 2014. Despite strained relations between the TDP-led state govt and the BJP-led Centre, approvals were secured with an outlay of ₹288 crore with the support of then union minister M Venkaiah Naidu, he said, adding that the project was taken forward by March 2019.
He alleged that the YSRCP govt, which succeeded the TDP in 2019, awarded contracts but failed to complete the harbour in over five years. He said that Jagan Mohan Reddy is spreading lies that the project would be privatised and trying to provoke local opposition.
The minister said the NDA govt is now developing Juvvaladinne as the country's first autonomous maritime shipyard with an investment of Rs 288.80 crore, benefiting around 25,000 fishing families and providing safe berthing for over 1,200 boats. Endowments minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy also criticised Jagan's proposed visit, alleging attempts to incite unrest.
