Vijayawada: Sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Kadapa, arrested the sub-inspector (SI) and circle inspector (CI) of the Simhadripuram police while they accepted and demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh on Monday. The arrested police personnel were identified as Dasari Anil Kumar, SI, Simhadripuram police station, and Nallapalli Venkata Ramana, CI, Pulivendula Rural Circle, in Kadapa district.
According to the complainant, Gurram Brahmaiah, who runs Sri Venkata Balaji Auto Consultancy in Anantapur, the SI and CI demanded a bribe of Rs 7 lakh to avoid implicating him in chain-snatching cases. This situation arose after a bike he bought and sold to Dileep Prasad, a resident of Bihar and an accused chain-snatcher in five chain-snatching cases, was used in those crimes.

The SI and CI reduced the bribe amount to Rs 3.5 lakh, out of which Rs 2 lakh was demanded. The arrested SI already collected Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
On Monday, the ACB sleuths caught the accused SI red-handed while he was accepting the remaining Rs 1.5 lakh from the complainant. A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (As Amended in 2018) Act, 1988, and Section 3(5) of BNS, 2023, was registered against the accused at Kadapa ACB police station, and the arrested were produced before the ACB court in Kurnool.
The ACB was carrying out search operations at the residential premises and offices of the arrested accused, as well as at the Simhadripuram police station.
