GUNTUR/VIJAYAWDA: YSR Congress leaders on Sunday paid floral tributes to Mother Teresa at Guntur on the occasion of her canonisation at the Vatican. Party leaders garlanded her statue at Lakshmipuram in the city and lauded her services to the poor.
Guntur city wing president of the party Lella Appi Reddy said that the poor would not suffer if the governments followed the principles of Mother Teresa.
He said that the Mother had single-handedly saved millions of destitutes while the government was struggling to help a few despite having a large mechanism.
Party leaders R Ramu, A Anjaneyulu, Shaik Jani, Jagan Koti and others were present.
At another programme in Vijayawada, peace-lovers took out a massive rally to commemorate canonisation of Mother Teresa, at St Paul's Cathedral, near Benz Circle, to Mother Teresa statue at PB Siddhartha College. Students, nuns, public representatives and others participated in the rally and paid rich tributes to the Mother.
Vijayawada police commissioner D Gautam Sawang, legislator Gadde Ramamohan Rao and others recalled the contribution made by the Mother to the society. They said that she used love as a means of service and venerated her saying she would be a great inspiration as long as human race exists.
