Addressing a press conference, Nellore town DSP J Srinivasulu Reddy said they received a complaint from Uribindi Manohar Reddy, personal assistant to minister for industries, commerce and information technology, Mekapati Goutham Reddy, that Vamsi Krishna Reddy was impersonating as the minister’s PA to extort money.

A case was registered in Vedayapalem police station on November 26 and he was arrested the next day. “After his arrest, we came to know that he was wanted in a kidnap-and-murder case and three cheating cases,” Srinivasulu said.

According to the police, the accused confessed that he and three others had kidnapped a man identified as Malepati Harshavardhan from Vijayawada in September 2018 and took him to Hyderabad. They later killed him with a cricket bat.

Harshavardhan had told the police about Vamsi Krishna Reddy’s involvement in a kidnap-and-robbery case in Nellore city. Vamsi Krishna Reddy confessed that he had created fake Aadhaar cards using fake addresses.

He also used names of influential persons to cheat public. Three people from Vishakapatnam and Hyderabad had paid him cash in lakhs expecting favour from the accused.
