Visakhapatnam: The corporators of the NDA alliance in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) served notices of a no-confidence motion against the deputy mayors of GVMC. They gave the notice to GVMC in-charge commissioner and district collector MN Harendira Prasad.
It may be recalled that the corporators already served a notice of a no-confidence motion against Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari of YSRCP. The mayor and two deputy mayors, Jiyyani Sridhar and Kattamuri Satish, belong to the YSRCP. The council meeting will be held on April 19.
The YSRCP won the corporation elections in 2021 with 59 seats out of the total 98 seats. However, over 25 of them switched loyalty since the NDA alliance came back to power in state last year. The TDP had won 29 seats, Jana Sena 3, BJP, CPM, and CPI one each in the 2021 elections.
Alliance parties now hold 59 out of 98 wards in GVMC. It is recalled that Vamsi Krishna Yadav resigned from the corporator post after he was elected as MLC of YSRCP. Later, he differed with the YSRCP and resigned from the MLC post before the general elections and joined Jana Sena.
Vamsi was appointed as Jana Sena city president, and he won the Visakha South MLA seat.
According to GVMC sources, the no-confidence motion against the deputy mayors would also get clarity during the council meeting on April 19. The TDP's deputy floor leader in the GVMC Council, Gandham Srinivasa Rao, alleged that the mayor, deputy mayors, and YSRCP floor leader were involved in corrupt practices.
