Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has secured a major boost on India's tourism map, with NITI Aayog spotlighting the state as a premier destination in its report "Divya Bharat – A Window to the Soul of India." The report positions Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of the national tourism landscape, citing its rich blend of nature, heritage, spirituality, and culture.
The report showcases hill stations like Araku Valley and Lambasingi to coastal attractions such as Suryalanka and Kothapatnam beaches. It highlights heritage sites including the Undavalli Caves and spiritual centres like Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, which draw millions annually.
According to NITI Aayog, Andhra Pradesh offers a complete tourism ecosystem spanning nature, wildlife, waterfalls, beaches, adventure, and pilgrimage circuits. Destinations such as Papikondalu, Nallamala forests, Pulicat Lake, Konaseema, Borra and Belum caves, Gandikota canyon, and Horsley Hills have been identified for global promotion.
The report also underlines the state's vibrant cultural identity — Kuchipudi dance, popular festivals, Kalamkari and Uppada silk, and a distinctive culinary heritage featuring Pesarattu, Gongura pachadi, and Andhra curries.
It recommends October to February as the ideal tourist season, while stressing strategic promotion, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainable practices.
Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh welcomed the recognition, saying it reflects Andhra Pradesh's growing prominence under the current government's vision. "Every destination mentioned is being developed to international standards," he said, crediting chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and central govt support for positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading hub by 2030.
Durgesh added that a new tourism policy, industrial status for tourism, allied sector policies, greenfield airports, and expressways will enhance connectivity and attract investments. Inviting travellers, he said: "Visit Andhra Pradesh and experience unmatched natural beauty, heritage, and hospitality." The report is expected to further strengthen the state's image as a fast-emerging tourism powerhouse.
