Neradi barrage on Vamsadhara gets clearance after two decades
Visakhapatnam: After two decades, the Neradi Barrage project on the River Vamsadhara got the clearance as the Kendra Jala Sakthi Ministry released gazette on Vamsadhara River Water Disputes Tribunal (VWDT) judgement. As per the gazette, the AP govt got clear permission to construct Neradi Barrage.The tribunal finalised that water availability at Gotta Barrage on River Vamsadhara as 115 TMC. Both AP and Odisha can equally take the waters. Now, the AP govt can construct other linked constructions to the Neradi Barrage on Vamsadhara River. A Right Head Sluice with a design capacity of 8,000 cusecs would be constructed for AP and Left Head Sluice for Odisha requirements.For the Neradi Barrage construction, Odisha govt would acquire 106 acres of land in its soil and will hand over to the AP, which will bear the compensation and others. AP govt also got the permission to use eight TMC water from June 1 to Nov 30 every year through sideweir constructed at Katragedda. Once the Barrage construction was completed, the sideweir would be closed.
