Nellore parliament poll battle draws the attention of the entire greater Rayalaseema region
TIRUPATI: The battle for votes between two political heavyweights at the prestigious Nellore parliament constituency, has grabbed the attention of the entire greater Rayalaseema region of the state.
Nellore parliament constituency covers Kandukur, Kavali, Kovur, Atmakur, Nellore rural, Nellore city and Udayagiri assembly constituencies.
Nellore district, which remained a Congress party stronghold for several decades, became a bastion of the YSRCP, once the Congress party got completely decimated after the unilateral bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
While the YSRCP bagged 10 out of 10 assembly constituencies and the Nellore parliament in the 2019 elections, the defection of three ruling party MLAs into the TDP fold just before the general elections, came as a jolt to the YSRCP camp.
And the exit of Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and his wife and TTD's Delhi LAC president Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy from the YSRCP, was a bigger jolt to the ruling disposition.
After Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy was fielded by the TDP at the Nellore parliament constituency and his wife Prashanthi Reddy from the Kovur assembly constituency, the YSRCP roped-in Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy, to take on the Vemireddy couple.
As the two "Nellore Pedda Reddy's" have locked horns in one of the fiercest battle for votes in the history of the Nellore parliament constituency, it remains to be seen, who among the two first timers, will emerge victorious.
While Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy wants to win the elections with a vengeance and has openly declared that he would go to any extent to ensure the YSRCP's defeat not only at the Nellore parliament but in as many assembly constituencies as possible in the district, it is a question of prestige for Vijayasai Reddy to win the elections, as was chosen to contest from here by Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
After his Nellore parliament constituency manifesto failed to cut ice with the Nelloreans, Vijayasai Reddy is trying to desperately target his opponent Vemireddy by portraying him as "Cash rich but unfit for politics".
On the other-hand Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has been trying to portray Vijayasai Reddy as an outsider-imported from Delhi, to drive across the point that Vijayasai Reddy, who spends most of his time at the national capital, will be inaccessible to the people of Nellore once the elections are over.
And while the war of words goes on amidst an intensified campaign on ground by the YSRCP and the TDP, all eyes are on the polling day, which will seal off the fate of the two political contenders in the poll-fray.
