Lorry crash kills two, scooter accident claims another life in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: A lorry rammed into stationary vehicles at the BHVP traffic signal in Vizag city on Sunday morning, killing two people and injuring one. One of the deceased, K Rama Krishna (49), worked at a private motor company in Gajuwaka. The accident occurred while he was taking his daughter Swapna to the Simhachalam temple. Fortunately, Swapna escaped with minor injuries and was admitted to hospital.Swapna had accompanied her father to seek blessings at Lord Narasimha Swamy temple before her Class X exams, scheduled to begin Monday, March 16. Witnessing her father's death left her in shock. "We started around 7:30 am and stopped at the BHVP signal. We did not notice the lorry coming from behind. It must have moved rashly, and we were hit without warning. We were thrown far by the impact, and my father died. He always encouraged me in my studies but never insisted on a particular course," said Swapna. The other deceased was B. Satish (30) from Anakapalli district. The tragedy struck both families suddenly. Officials determined brake failure in the lorry as the primary cause. Damaged vehicles were removed, and traffic on the national highway was restored. Gajuwaka traffic circle inspector Shaik Hussain said the incident was unfortunate. "It was preliminarily identified that the driver tried to steer towards two-wheelers when he realised the brakes had failed," Hussain said. Before the morning incident could fade, another accident claimed a life in the same area in the afternoon. Two young women riding a scooter towards Gajuwaka lost control and crashed into the divider between BHVP Junction and Visakha Dairy. Adari Mahalakshmi died en route to hospital, while Chippada Anusha was seriously injured."This afternoon around 2 pm, Mahalakshmi and Anusha, who are doing internships at BHEL, were riding a two-wheeler from BHVP towards Visakha Dairy when they lost control and hit the divider, causing a self-accident. They fell onto the road with serious injuries. Gajuwaka traffic road safety in-charge, head constable Srikant, immediately shifted them to hospital. Mahalakshmi died on the way, while Anusha was saved," added Hussain.
