VIJAYAWADA: The rapid
spike
in the number of
Covid-19 cases
is worrying residents of Krishna district. Since
June
1, a total of 384
Covid-19
cases have been registered in
Krishna district
till date. Officials predict, the number of cases may go touch the 500-mark this month.
Krishna district has registered 849 Covid-19 cases till date. Of these, 465 cases were registered in the months of March, April and May combined. However, the relaxation of lockdown norms has led to a sudden spike in infections.
On Monday, 10 new cases were registered at Nuzividu division sending locals in a tizzy. Major commercial areas in Nuzividu town remained closed on Thursday as the entire area was declared a containment zone.
Officials have zeroed in on crowded market places as one of the areas causing rapid spread of the novel coronavirus. A steel shop owner in One Town, who opened his shop for five days recently tested positive for Covid-19. Within two days, his aunt and some other family members also tested positive.
However, in some good news, the number of new Covid-19 cases in Krishna Lanka seems to be going down. Officials are now focussing on the Ranigari Thota area where the number of cases has gone up over the last ten days.
Meanwhile, women’s associations in the state have demanded the government to reduce the burden of work on women workers, including female health workers such as nurses, doctors and ANMs.
P Durga Bhavani, state general secretary of National Federation for Indian Women (NFIW), said, “We have come to know that female paramedical staff are working without rest in government hospitals. One week quarantine should be given to them for every 14 working days.”
“Similarly, the state government should relieve nurses who have to take care of children at home,” Durga Bhavani demanded.
