Vijayawada: A surge in demand for hotels rooms has been seen in Vijayawada ahead of counting day as followers of major political parties have booked rooms to track the counting day developments. For Thursday i.e the vote counting day, almost all hotels in the city have been booked to their capacity.
The scorching summer heat has also forced people to opt for hotel bookings to hang around with their friends on counting day. Instead of meeting at party offices and other places, they have decided to stay indoors and chose neutral venues in hotels.
“Vijayawada has about 300 hotels ranging from five-star hotels to those which provide normal accommodation with minimum facilities. However, the demand seems to be uniform across all classes of hotels,” said the president of Vijayawada hotels association K Pattabhi. The high voltage political battle has created huge expectations among people and it is reflecting in the demand for hotel rooms, he observed.
Moreover, with the reports of large scale betting taking place on poll results, the city police have increased surveillance on hotels. Hotel owners have been instructed to record the details of their guests and inform them about any suspicious activity on their premises. Strict actions would be taken against the owners if they fail to report any illegal activities.
