A court in Kolkata's Sealdah framed charges Monday against Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College 86 days ago on Aug 9. The move clears the path for daily in-camera hearings, set to begin on November 11.Kolkata police arrested Roy a day after the crime, while CBI assumed charge of the case three days later. On Oct 7, CBI submitted a 45-page chargesheet detailing evidence against Roy, supported by statements from 108 witnesses.

Members of the West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front (WBJDF) sent a mail to chief secretary Manoj Pant on Tuesday night, requesting him to arrange a meeting of the State Task Force (STF) to discuss various issues pertaining to the state healthcare system and the proper implementation of the measures suggested for improving safety and security in hospitals. "Regarding the central real-time digitized bed vacancy monitoring system and central referral system, we sent specific suggestions to you through e-mail. But until now, we have not received any communication from you regarding the STF meeting. We again request you to arrange the meeting," the letter read.

The father of the deceased RG Kar Medical College and Hospital medic confirmed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has invited him for a meeting. This follows a letter sent by the parents to Shah seeking guidance and assistance in their pursuit of justice for their daughter, who was sexually assaulted and killed at the hospital in August.
