VIJAYAWADA: Four members of a gang were arrested for cheating people by exchanging fake gold for real ones at Machilipatnam town in Krishna district on Tuesday.
The main accused was identified as Derangula Rajesh.An autorickshaw driver, Rajesh was wanted in several cheating cases across Narasaraopet, Visakhapatnam, Nandyal, Deverapalli and Bengaluru.
Police said that Rajesh had roped in three of his relatives and began selling or exchanging fake gold claiming it to be real. The most recent offence took place on June 21, where the accused approached one Durga Bhavani and sold the fake gold and took Rs 20,000.
Rajesh took up a job as a daily wage labourer and was living in a rented accommodation at Singarayapalem village. He then began cheating a number of people with lucrative schemes. A case under Section 420 (IPC) was registered.
