Everest expedition for students with special needs from AP

Vijayawada: A group of students with special needs will undertake a Nepal Everest Base Camp expedition, reflecting a major push towards inclusive and holistic education. The programme was launched by education minister Nara Lokesh at his Undavalli residence. The expedition is being organised under the Samagra Shiksha initiative. A total of 21 students, including eight girls, from Class 9 to intermediate in govt institutions, will participate in the 16-day trek scheduled from April 15 to 30. The team will travel to Kathmandu before commencing the trek to the Everest Base Camp, located at an altitude of 5,364 metres. Stressing on the importance of hard work and perseverance, Lokesh said they are the key to achieving success. "Nothing is impossible if you have the determination. Overcome the challenges and aim high," he told them, adding that the govt would extend full support to students with special needs in all aspects.Lokesh said the govt's objective is to recognise and encourage such students every year. He emphasised the importance of inclusive education, physical fitness, and improved learning outcomes in govt schools. He also called on students to become role models and contribute to society by helping others.Referring to personal experiences, the minister highlighted the importance of resilience in overcoming difficulties and urged society to treat persons with special needs with respect and dignity.The minister conveyed his best wishes to the team for the successful completion of the expedition. The initiative is expected to promote confidence among students with special needs and encourage wider participation in similar programmes in the future.
