According to Chandragiri SI Rama Krishna, the two victims Srirangam Srinivas (27) and Anudeep (23) along with one Nithin (17), all hailing from various parts in Tirupati, went to the local pond near the Chandragiri fort for a swim on Saturday afternoon.

The boys thought the water wouldn't be too deep and got inside the water body, but sucked deeper into the pond. Nithin, however, managed to come out of the pond but Srinivas and Anudeep drowned deep into the pond.
Nithin returned home by the evening and informed his parents about the incident. They immediately approached the local police and sought their help to rescue the two youngsters. The police, who reached there by late on Saturday night, ventured into the pond but couldn’t trace the bodies till midnight.
The police later resumed the search operation on Sunday morning and fished out the bodies. A case has been registered and bodies have been sent to the local government hospital for postmortem.
