TIRUPATI: Unable to bear the alleged harassment of his son-in-law, a 55-year-old father and his two daughters committed

suicide

in Kadapa district on Saturday. The father, before taking the extreme step on Friday night, shot a selfie video in which he held his son-in-law responsible for his death.


Police said Babu Reddy, a resident of YMR colony in Proddatur town, had got his elder daughter Swetha Reddy married to a software engineer, identified as R Suresh Kumar Reddy, last year. After differences cropped up between the couple, Swetha had returned to her parents’ place in Proddatur recently and stayed back. Suresh reportedly used to frequently call his wife and abuse her over phone. As the harassment continued, Swetha told her parents that her life had become miserable ever since she married Suresh. Unable to bear the torment his daughter was undergoing, Babu Reddy decided to take the extreme step and hanged himself from a tree near the village.

The shock of seeing their father hanging from the ceiling led his daughters Swetha and Sai Reddy to jump before a moving train near Tippaluru-Rayunipeta in Yerraguntla. Family members and relatives have demanded the police to arrest Suresh immediately. The sonin-law is yet to be arrested.
