Vijayawada:
Vijayawada
city lost many noted places and institutions with the reorganisation of districts. Central government institutions and IT park located on outskirts of city are now part of Krishna district.
The then state government had drafted a proposal for greater Vijayawada merging 56 villages neighbouring the city with urban limits. Vijayawada international airport located at
Gannavaram
is also moved to Krishna district technically though it is named as Vijayawada airport. Many projects launched on the city outskirts are now part of Krishna district.
Union government had sanctioned Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CPET) to Vijayawada city after the state bifurcation. But the city lost the institute with the reorganisation of districts. Major IT companies including
Tech Mahindra
, and HCL Technologies are located at Kesarapalli village which has also been moved to Krishna district.
Industrial park and mega food park proposed at
Mallavalli
have also gone to Krishna district. Areas surrounding the city with scope for real estate business have also been merged with Krishna district. “NTR district will have only Vijayawada city and uplands of Nandigama, Jagghiahpet, Tiruvuru and Mylavaram constituency. Scope for real estate development is very low in this region. Government should bring some IT companies, industries and projects around the city to give a boost to the newly formed district,” K
Raghu Babu, convenor of Urban Citizens Front, told TOI.
