2 die as leisure swim turns fatal in Srikalahasti

Tirupati: Two persons drowned in an agricultural well near Arava Kothur village in Srikalahasti mandal on Friday. The victims were identified as Trishul, 12, and his relative Tharun Reddy, 25.According to locals, Trishul entered the well for a leisure swim but began struggling and cried for help. Tharun Reddy, who was nearby, jumped in to rescue him. Sadly, both drowned. Villagers, with the help of Srikalahasti police, retrieved the bodies. Police registered a case and shifted them for postmortem.The twin deaths cast a pall of gloom over Arava Kothur. The tragedy was especially devastating for Trishul's mother, Sukanya, who lost her husband Bala Krishna to illness just a year ago. Since then, she has been the family's sole breadwinner, working as a daily wage labourer to educate her two daughters and son. Trishul, a fifth-class student at a local school, was her only son. Sukanya was inconsolable following his sudden death.
