19umamahesh1: EESL charts MSME decarbonisation roadmap for Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam: The Union govt's Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has prepared a roadmap for Andhra Pradesh to accelerate adoption of advanced, energy-smart technologies among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The blueprint, to be submitted to the state industries department, aligns with chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's vision of leveraging technology for economic growth and environmental sustainability. Similar EESL initiatives in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have already delivered 20–30% energy savings across industrial clusters.Officials said the dedicated plan positions Andhra Pradesh as a key driver in India's industrial decarbonisation journey while enhancing MSME competitiveness. Built on the success of flagship programmes such as UJALA, the Street Lighting National Programme, distributed solar and smart metering, the roadmap aims to transform MSMEs—long seen as energy- and carbon-intensive—into engines of sustainable growth.MSMEs remain central to economic development but account for a large share of industrial energy use. EESL, now a national implementation agency, will enable their transition to low-carbon operations through domestic programmes and international collaborations.
The initiative aligns with India's climate commitments: reducing GDP emissions intensity by 45% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2070. Collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government will be crucial in identifying clusters, mobilising stakeholders and integrating efforts with regional strategies."This initiative marks a paradigm shift—from isolated interventions to a comprehensive MSME enablement model," said EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit.Industries secretary Dr. N. Yuvaraj welcomed the plan, reiterating the government's commitment to positioning Andhra Pradesh as a preferred global destination for investment and technology-led industrial development. He also acknowledged MSME Development Corporation CEO M. Viswa for facilitating Central support through the ministry of MSME.
