Yogi govt to allot new shops to affected traders
Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh govt has decided to allot new shops to traders affected by the ongoing Virasat Corridor road-widening project in Gorakhpur, recognising their cooperation in the city's development process.
The corridor project, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the busy old commercial area, stretches from Dharamshala Bazaar to Pandeyhata. As part of the road-widening initiative, several shops were partially or fully affected. However, traders supported the project, and the state government has now planned their systematic rehabilitation.
Following directions from chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation is constructing two commercial complexes for the affected shopkeepers.
One commercial complex, coming up at Bandhu Singh Park near Ghantaghar, is nearing completion. The project, being developed at Rs 27.26 crore, will include a multi-level parking facility along with 42 shops. The complex is expected to be ready by the end of this month.
In addition, another commercial complex will be constructed at the Normal campus area for traders impacted by the project.
A total of 64 shops of varying sizes will be developed, ensuring organised rehabilitation for the affected traders while supporting the city's infrastructure development. tnn
