Varanasi: In two separate encounters by Jahanaganj and Phulpur police, two notorious criminals were arrested after suffering bullet injuries in their legs.Providing details, Azamgarh ASP (City) Madhuvan Kumar Singh said that the Jahanaganj police received a tip-off about presence of criminals, who were involved in the robbery of a house near PGI Chakrapanpur on April 14 night, in the same area to target another house. Police swung into action and cordoned off Gambhirvan area.When the police team tried to stop a suspicious youth walking through the area with a bag, he opened fire at the police team and tried to escape, said the ASP, adding that during retaliatory firing by cops, he suffered a bullet injury in his leg and was caught. He was identified as Sanjay Bheel alias Sanju (22) of Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. After recovering a country-made pistol, cartridges, gold ingots (34 grams), four pairs of anklets, 10 coins and Rs 40,000 cash, police rushed him to hospital.In another encounter early morning on Sunday, Phulpur police cordoned off Bhoramau culvert after receiving inputs regarding movement of an accused involved in an attempt to murder case. They tried to intercept him when he was passing through the culvert, when he opened fire at the police team. During retaliatory firing by police, he suffered a bullet injury in his leg. He was identified as Kesari Chauhan. After recovering a country-made pistol, cartridges, a motorcycle, a mobile phone and cash from him, cops rushed him to hospital.
