GORAKHPUR: In a horrific incident reported from a small east UP town, a teenage girl was kidnapped and gangraped for more than 25 days by four men who also tried to sell her to human-traffickers. Though the police initially refused to register a case, an FIR was filed on the directive of the SP and two of the accused were arrested.
Reports said a teenaged girl was allegedly kidnapped by four men in Itwa village in Siddharth Nagar on May 23.
She was held captive in a house on Indo-Nepal border and gangraped there. The accused also allegedly attempted to sell her to human-traffickers active on the border but failed. Later, they dumped her outside her village on May 19.
The girl's brothers who work in Mumbai approached Itwa police on June 20. However, the cops refused to lodge their FIR. They then met SP Sidhdharth Nagar KK Chowdhary on whose directive an FIR was lodged by the Itwa police on Sunday and two accused were arrested on Monday.
"As per the complaint, the girl was abducted by Chintu and his Uncle Vijay Pal who raped her and held her hostage in a house at Nepal border. Later, Vijay's brother and father went there and tried to sell her to human-traffickers. When they failed, they dumped her outside her village and fled. Accused Chinku and Vijay Pal have been arrested and a case has also been registered against them under POSCO Act and SC/ST Act. The girl has been sent for medical examination," Chowdhary told TOI.
On the delay in lodging FIR, the SP said, "We don't have any such record but I have ordered an investigation in this connection. The girl and her brother met me for the first time on Sunday and their FIR was lodged."
ASP Sri Prakash Diwedi has visited the family members of the girl and assured that the two absconding accused will be arrested soon.
