Scientists inspire next Gen women in STEM
Varanasi: The scientists of BHU on Thursday addressed and inspired 125 girl students of Class 8 to Class 11 of Central Hindu Girls School (CHGS) in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The event aimed to empower the girl students and ignite their passion for STEM fields. Chandana Basu and Garima Jain, currently working as scientists at the Centre for Genetic Disorders, BHU, addressed the students. The interactive session began with Olivia Majhi introducing the students to various science career opportunities and provided guidance on shaping career paths. This was followed by a career planning activity and quiz. Tanya Tibrewal and Archana Tiwari then discussed their career journeys in the fields of archaeology and physics. Students had the opportunity to ask questions to these experts. The event also featured a hands-on STEM workshop, where students created animal or plant cells using coloured clay. This activity helped them understand the importance of each component of the cell in a fun and engaging way, enhancing their learning about cell biology. The event was coordinated by Anjana and Manju Gautam, science teachers at CHGS, and assisted by research scholars Debashree and Vishal. The principal of CHGS, Pankaj Gupta, said, "It was a very engaging session as students learned about parts of the cell through a fun and interactive session. These kinds of innovative approaches in teaching are very useful. I am thankful to BHU scientists for empowering and inspiring our students."
