Varanasi: Calling on budding engineers, director of BENCO Group Chennai P Ramachandran appealed the students to focus on innovation, sustainability, and emerging technologies in the metals and materials sector. He was speaking on the occasion of Metallurgy Day 2026 held at the department of Metallurgical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) at Prof NP Gandhi Memorial Hall on Friday.
IIT(BHU) director Prof Amit Patra appreciated the contributions of the department towards academic excellence, research advancements, and industry collaboration.
Prof GS Mahobia, Pro. Incharge MetSoc. presented the report of the Metallurgy Society and outlined various student activities, technical events, and initiatives undertaken by the society. During the programme, meritorious students, research scholars, and achievers were felicitated with awards and recognitions for their outstanding academic, research, curricular, and extra-curricular performances. The awards included the T.R. Anantharaman Merit Prize–2026, Gandhi Jubilee Medal–2026, Professor N. Prasad Memorial Prize–2026, certificates of merit for commendable performances in Undergraduate, Integrated Dual Degree, and M.Tech programmes, as well as recognition of winners of the Annual Research Scholars’ Seminar “Metallurgical Researches–2026”. Outstanding contribution by non-teaching staff was also acknowledged during the programme.
