‘Education is true medium of revolution, ideas’

Varanasi: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, a national seminar on the topic “Baba Saheb Dr BR Ambedkar: Role of Education, Justice and Equality in the Making of an Inclusive India”, was organised at the KN Uduppa auditorium, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, on Tuesday.

In his presidential address, BHU vice-chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said that Baba Saheb’s life is an unique example of struggle, foresight and vision. He stated that his role in the making of the Constitution provided a strong foundation of equal opportunity, freedom of expression and social justice to the nation. He said that Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, emerging from difficult circumstances, established a distinct place for himself through education. As the Chairman of the Drafting Committee, his contribution to the making of the Indian Constitution was extremely significant for the country.

Mukesh Kumar Meshram, additional chief secretary, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, said that education is the true medium of revolution, which transforms the society through ideas. He inspired the youth towards positive thinking, self-awareness and recognising their potential, and emphasised self-reliance and dreaming big for building an inclusive society.

Keynote speaker Prof MP Ahirwar, head, department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, faculty of Arts, BHU, while discussing Baba Saheb’s social, economic and political contributions, said that he cannot be confined to any one particular section. He elaborated on his ideas related to granting industry status to agriculture, nationalisation of resources, women’s empowerment and national unity. Prof SN Sankhwar, director, Institute of Medical Sciences, said that Baba Saheb’s life inspires discipline, scholarship and a sense of duty. He stated that beyond organising seminars, there is a need to adopt Baba Saheb’s ideas in daily life.
