Varanasi: The decomposed bodies of a woman Sunita Pandey (56) and her daughter Deepika Pandey (28) were found lying inside their home in Naria area under Lanka police station on Wednesday.
It is suspected that they had died several days ago.
“The bodies have been sent for postmortem. The autopsy report will help us ascertain the actual cause of their death and the case would be lodged accordingly, said additional commissioner of police Santosh Singh.
With murder not ruled out, police have also started investigation on different angles, including property dispute in this connection, admitted Singh.
The matter came to light after locals experienced foul smell emanating from the house of Sunita, which was locked from outside. They reported the matter to Lanka police, who broke into the house only to find decayed bodies.
Singh said that during initial investigation by police it had surfaced that relations between Sunita and Anjani were bitter over property disputes.
