VADODARA: The special operations group (SOG) busted a cricket betting racket and arrested five persons from Harni. The cops raided a bungalow near Harni lake on Wednesday night and caught the a bookie and his accomplices when they were accepting bets on T20 cricket matches being played in Tamil Nadu Premier League. All the accused are residents of Ahmedabad.
“We received a tip-off following which we raided the bungalow and arrested the gang.
They were accepting bets from customers and feeding the details in a software that is used for placing bets,” said H M Vyas, SOG police inspector. The accused have been identified as Bharat Jaiswal, who is the bookie and his accomplices Manoj Godkar, Sunny Patel, Chetan Patel and Arun Bhavsar. They had rented the bungalow for Rs 20,000 per month to run the betting racket. The gang used to travel all the way from Ahmedabad to the city for running the racket.
The cops have seized laptops, television set, mobile phones, pen drives and a car from the spot. The police said that Bharat had been booked in a cricket betting case at Ahmedabad about six years ago.
