VADODARA: The Gujarat high court-appointed special investigations team (
SIT) investigating the Ishrat Jahan encounter case visited Vadodara Central Jail on Tuesday. The team led by additional director-general of police Satyapal Singh questioned former DSP Narendra Amin, one of the accused in the encounter alleged to be fake. All the three members, including Mohan Jha and Satish Verma questioned Amin.
The interrogation went on for a couple of hours inside the jail.
Singh later told journalists that they questioned Amin, but refused to elaborate on the nature of questions. When asked about Amin's claims that he faces a danger to his life in Vadodara jail, Singh refused to comment. Amin, who was part of the team involved in Ishrat encounter case, is behind bars in the Sohrabuddin encounter case. Singh took over as SIT chief last month and began investigating the incident.
Ishrat and three others -- Javed Sheikh alias Pragnesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar -- were killed on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004. After the encounter, the city crime branch had claimed that the deceased were Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists who had come to kill Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
