Vadodara: The state monitoring cell has busted a cricket betting racket and arrested four persons from the spot in Padra taluka. Cops raided the house of the accused on Thursday and caught them accepting and placing bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
According to the police, based on information, the cell kept a watch on the gang’s activities.
On Thursday, cops arrested Altaf Hussain, Sahil Jani, Altaf Malek and Siddharth Patel, all residents of Padra. The gang was in touch with 48 other persons who were placing the bets, said cops, adding that all of them have been declared as wanted.
Ten mobile phones, laptops and a book having all the finance details was seized from the spot.
The city police too have been busting IPL betting rackets over the last few years. The accused have now started using mobile apps and sophisticated technology to accept bets. Every year, during the IPL, the betting gangs become active and crores of rupees are laundered by the accused. Cops across the state monitor such illegal acts and bust the betting rackets.
