Vadodara: At least 30 people were booked for rioting after groups of two communities clashed following a petty quarrel in Chhota Udepur on Monday night.

The fight erupted when children were playing Holi near Ranchhod Ramji temple on Library Road. Some people from minority community who were going on a motorcycle got into an argument over spraying colours.

The altercation snowballed and mobs started pelting stones at each other. "People here celebrate Holi for seven days. Children were playing with the colours when some accidentally fell on two persons.," said Chhota Udepur's superintendent of police, P C Baranda. tnn

Police immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Patrolling was intensified to avert any escalation.

The accused have been identified as Zakir Pathan, Imam Darul, Javed Pathan, Toshif Pathan, Faizal Pathan, Laliyo Pathan and about 30 others from both the communities.

"The accused fled in a car after they saw the police coming. We have begun investigations into the incident and will arrest the accused soon," added Baranda.

Seven people suffered minor injuries in stone pelting.
