VADODARA: Five students from the Banyan City made it to the state top 10 in Thursday's results of this year's class X board exams. The city's performance improved marginally, as only three students had achieved this feat last year.
Moreover, boys stole the show as 11 out of 17 city toppers were boys, including city topper Tarang Shah, who ranked fourth in the state with 96 per cent.
Along with Tarang, Darsh Shah with 95.38 per cent stood eighth in state and second in city toppers list. Third ranker in city Heli Mehta, bagged the ninth rank in the state with 95.23 per cent. Chaitanya Patel and Deep Shah stood tenth in the state merit list and fourth in the city with 95.08 per cent.
Most toppers from the city aspire to take up science stream with medicine and engineering field being their hot favourites. Those opting for commerce aim to become chartered accountants.
Tarang, whose parents are doctors, aspires to follow their footsteps and keep the tradition alive. "The results are beyond my expectation. I dreamt of making it to the list of rankers in the city, but I was not expecting to top. And, getting it to state merit list is dream come true," said Tarang from Alembic Vidyalaya.
Darsh, who studied at Sardar Vallabhbhai Vidyalaya, said he will opt for the science stream. "I was not expecting such good results but have given the best while attempting the exams. I want to become an engineer and will work hard for it," said Darsh.
Heli, a student of Reliance School, aims to become a gynaecologist. Chaitanya Patel and Deep Shah, both of Alembic Vidyalaya not only share the same ranks, but also the same ambition that of becoming engineers.
Deep, who scored 100 marks in maths destination, is looking to make it to IIT-Mumbai, while Chaitanya aspires to make a mark as a software engineer. "Tarang and I were together since class I and have always had a healthy competition," said Deep, who is a state-level badminton player as well.
