BJP clinches KAMC, sweeps most Anand civic bodies

Vadodara: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to form the first board of the newly constituted Karamsad-Anand Municipal Corporation (KAMC) after securing a clear and comfortable majority in its maiden election.Polling on Sunday witnessed a turnout of 61.54%, with voting remaining largely peaceful across Anand district.Of the 52 seats in the corporation, elections were conducted for 40, as 12 BJP-backed candidates had been elected unopposed. The results declared on Tuesday showed the BJP winning 31 of 40 contested seats, decisively crossing the majority mark. The Congress secured eight seats, while one seat was won by an independent candidate.In contrast, Borsad nagarpalika returned a fractured mandate, with no single party managing to secure a majority.Elsewhere in the district, the BJP delivered a strong performance across municipalities. In Umreth, the party won 24 of 28 seats, while Congress secured three and one seat went to an independent. In Khambhat, the BJP claimed 22 of 36 seats, with Congress winning 13 and one seat going to an independent.Petlad nagarpalika saw the BJP win 26 of 36 seats, alongside eight independents and two Congress candidates.In Tarapur, the BJP secured 13 of 24 seats, while Congress won six and independents accounted for five. In Sojitra, the BJP won 15 of 24 seats, with the remaining nine seats going to the Congress.Overall, the six nagarpalikas in the district recorded an average voter turnout of around 74%, indicating robust participation in the election.
