Brahmbhatt had approached thecourt nine years back complaining that Sharma as Ahmedabad range IG hadillegally ordered his arrest on October 23, 2001 causing harassment to him andhis family members. According to Brahmbhatt, Sharma had issued orders to arresthim in connection with a complaint in which the police had already filed a 'C'summary report and even the court had accepted it.
It was on October31, 1999 that NCP leader Jayant Patel alias Boskey had registered a complaintagainst Brahmbhatt at Anand rural police station alleging that Brahmbhatt hadthreatened him during a telephonic conversation. Later after the police filed a'C' summary report, the court had accepted the report on May 1, 2000.
But,Sharma allegedly ordered Anand police to arrest Brahmbhatt from his residence onOctober 23, 2001. According to Brahmbhatt, it was only after the directorgeneral of police intervened that his arrest was stopped. Brahmbhatt, who laterretired as deputy SP Bhuj, had moved the court against Sharma.
It ispertinent to note here that Brahmbhatt was serving as police inspector of theDetection of Crime Branch in Vadodara between February 7, 1997 and December 30,2000. In 1998, he was suspended after Sharma, who was the then commissioner ofpolice, received a complaint from a builder Gopalbhai K Patel alleging thatBrahmbhatt had demanded money or 10 per cent share in one of his constructionprojects and threatened action if he failed to oblige him. Later, however,Brahmbhatt was reinstated.
