Amid summer onset, wet weather in central Gujarat

Vadodara/Surat: Unseasonal rains lashed many places of Dahod, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur and Mahisagar districts on Friday morning. Parts of Dahod were waterlogged due to the rainfall.In Surat, light to moderate rainfall in the early hours caught residents off guard and disrupted the city's morning routine. Morning walkers were forced to seek shelter as sudden showers lashed several areas. School and college students also faced inconvenience while heading to classes. The rain worsened civic issues, particularly on roads dug up for infrastructure works. Many stretches turned muddy and slippery, making commuting difficult. Isolated places in central Gujarat, particularly the tribal belt, received light showers since Wednesday. However, on Friday, rain was reported from several parts of the 3 districts.In Dahod district, Dahod, Limdi, Limkheda, Zalod, Singvad, Garbada, Fatepura and Singvad received rainfall on Friday. Parts of Dahod town, including the civil hospital campus and the area around Bhagini Samaj, were waterlogged due to the sudden downpour.Parts of Mahisagar district, including the district headquarters, Lunawada, received rainfall on Friday. Other villages in the Lunawada taluka also reported rainfall. The rainfall was isolated at other locations in the district.Godhra in Panchmahal district received rainfall early in the morning. Ghoghamba, Shehra and some other parts of the district also reported rainfall.Meanwhile, Vadodara city recorded the highest departure from normal night temperature (5 degrees Celsius)"The minimum temperatures were appreciably to markedly above normal in parts of the Gujarat region, above normal to appreciably above normal in parts of Saurashtra, and above normal in parts of Kutch," the IMD bulletin stated.During daytime, the forested district of Dang recorded the highest temperature (35.6°C), followed closely by Rajkot (35.3°C), Porbandar (35.2°C) and Veraval (35.1°C). Surat also remained hot at 34.8°C.IMD attributed the change in weather to a western disturbance persisting as a trough from central Uttar Pradesh to north Gujarat at about 5.8 km above mean sea level.The weather department has predicted a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C for two days, and thereafter gradual fall by 2-3°C.
