Administration stops illegal construction of club

VADODARA: Construction of a plush club that was coming up in Sindhrot village has been stalled by the district administration on grounds that it was being illegally constructed on agricultural land. The club is coming up on a huge piece of land that belongs to Shanta Patel.
Patel apparently signed a deal with the club for selling the land and later applied for non-agricultural (NA) permission to the district collector's office.

She made an application for NA in October 2010, but it was rejected. "Patel didn't have proper documents to substantiate that she was owner of the land. She claimed that all the land-related documents got washed away in floods some years ago," a district official said.
The NA permission was rejected in March last year, but the club went ahead with construction on the agricultural land spread over 6,981 square metre. "The collector's office received an anonymous letter informing about the commercial construction on agricultural land. An inquiry was carried out by rural mamlatdar and it was found that two storeys had been constructed on the land. It clearly flouted Section 65 of the Revenue Act," the official added.
Construction at the site has been stayed by district collector Vinod Rao. Patel would now have to wait till the procedure of substantiating her land ownership is completed following which a promulgation order will be given by the deputy collector.
