9 of a family held for marrying off minor

Vadodara: Chhani police on Wednesday arrested nine persons for allegedly marrying off a 15-year-old girl from Sankarda village. The accused were arrested after the girl called the 181 helpline staff who helped her in filing a complaint at the Chhani police station.
The police have also booked Chirag Parmar (23), who had married the minor girl, for rape and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.Police said that the girl was studying in class X and was staying with her grandparents when she was married off.
The nine arrested include girl's grandparents, relative besides Chirag and his parents and relatives.
"The girl told us that her grandparents forced her to marry Chirag on April 19. Chirag's parents despite being aware that the girl was minor got their son married to her. She was later raped by Chirag," said Chhani police station writer Hasmukh Solanki.
"When questioned her grandparents said that they were old and were worried about the girl's future," added Solanki.
The police have also arrested the priest who solemnised the marriage.
