TRICHY: As many as 50 women on motorcycle take out a rally around the city as part of the ‘Beat

Breast Cancer

’ (BBC) campaign on Sunday.


Organised by K Shantha breast cancer foundation, (SBCF) Trichy, and Dr G Viswanthan Group of Hospitals, Trichy, the rally was flagged off by deputy commissioner of police, law and order, N S Nisha. The rally started at 7 am from the premises of the hospital and ended in SRM Hotel, Kajahmalai. People around the world have been observing ‘Pink October’ in the month, to create awareness about breast cancer. SBCF has been in the fore front of observing this by conducting various awareness programs such as walkathons, breast cancer survivors meet, and half marathon.

“Breast cancer is curable if detected early,” said Dr K Govindaraj from Dr G Viswanthan Group of Hospitals. “In India, women with

cervical cancer

topped the list of cancer patients among women. Since 2005, breast cancer has taken over that position,” he said.

Iron butt challenge winner Shipla Balakrishnan from Mumbai, women riders such as Dr Lakshmi Kandasamy, faculty at KAPV Medical College, Trichy, Dr S Dhivya, dentist, K Tharani, architect from Chennai, Joyce Parker, air hostess from Mumbai, Shalini Chauhan from Chennai, and Arthy Narayanan from Bangalore among others participated in the rally.
