Woman, son among three killed in road accidents

TRICHY: Three people including a woman and her son were killed in two separate road accidents at Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district.
Police identified the deceased in the first incident as D Kalaiarasi, 42, and her son D Kishore, 22, residents of Thiyagasamudram near Papanasam in Thanjavur. They were in Kumbakonam for shopping on Tuesday night. While returning, as they approach Tharasuram, a speeding car hit the bike they were travelling killing Karaiarasi on the spot.The grievously injured Kishore was rushed to Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries there. Kumbakonam taluk police registered a case and are investigating.
In another incident, a 20-year-old engineering student died near Mannachanallur in Trichy district. He has been identified as P Yogeshwaran, a native of Sriperumputhur near Mannachanallur.
He was going home from Mannachanallur on Tuesday evening on a two-wheeler. While he was crossing North Thathamangalam, a private bus collided head-on with the bike killing Yogeshwaran on the spot. Siruganur police sent the body to the government hospital in Trichy. Further investigations are on.
