Trichy: A 43-year-old woman died after an autorickshaw overturned while she was returning home with her four-year-old son from school in Thanjavur on Tuesday evening. The boy survived the accident with mild injuries.
The deceased was identified as M Krithika, from Arulananda Nagar in Thanjavur. Her husband Murali, 45, works in an IT company in Chennai while her son Kavin, 4, studies in Kindergarten at a private school in Yagappa Nagar.
On Tuesday evening, Krithika went to pick up her son from school. After picking him up, she boarded an autorickshaw to return home. While passing by Parisutham Nagar, the auto hit a speed breaker suddenly, lost balance and overturned.
Krithika sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. It is said that Krithika shielded her son on time and saved him from severe injuries.
Traffic police rushed to the spot, retrieved Krithika's body and sent it to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
Police detained the autorickshaw driver, Parthiban, 48. They booked a case against him under sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and 125 (endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
