Trichy: The cybercrime wing of Ariyalur district police arrested two youths in New Delhi for allegedly cheating a 37-year-old woman of ₹7.7 lakh on the promise of securing her a job abroad.
Police identified the victim as S Indumathi of Udayarpalayam in Ariyalur district. A nurse who had worked in Saudi Arabia for 12 years, she had registered her credentials on job portals as she was keen to resume work overseas.

The accused allegedly contacted her last year and directed her to upload additional details on a fake job consultancy website. They later conducted a sham online interview and collected money in instalments through UPI, citing registration, customs, courier and visa processing fees. In total, ₹7.7 lakh was transferred.
When no job offers materialised and the money was not returned, Indumathi lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police in Sept 2025.
Based on an analysis of IP addresses and UPI transaction details, police identified the accused as Ankit Kumar Singh, 26, of New Delhi and Danish Ghani, 30, of Uttar Pradesh. Police said Ankit financed the operation. Three mobile phones used to run the fake website were seized.
A special team led by Inspector Isaivani arrested the duo in New Delhi and brought them to Ariyalur. They were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
