Trichy: Trichy city on Sunday recorded 39.7 degrees Celsius, the highest maximum temperature recorded in the city so far in the year, marginally high from 39.3 degrees Celsius recorded on Saturday even as some parts of the district, especially rural areas, received mild showers. The district on average received 4.1mm of rainfall as of Sunday morning.For the past few days, the maximum temperature recorded in the city was hovering around 36 degrees Celsius, but from Saturday, the maximum temperature breached the 39 degrees Celsius mark. Public movement slightly plummeted in the afternoon due to the blistering heat. Scanty rainfall recorded in parts of the city and rural areas helped residents to heave a sigh of relief. Pullambadi in the Lalgudi region received 18.4mm of rainfall while Thuraiyur and Samayapuram recorded 15mm and 7mm rainfall respectively. IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast that temperature would remain high for the next few days in the city while some areas seeing a partly cloudy sky. The minimum temperature in the city has also witnessed a rise from 25.4 degrees Celsius to 27.2 degrees Celsius as of Saturday.In 2024, the highest temperature recorded in the city in April was 41.3 degrees Celsius while it was 42.5 degrees Celsius in 2021.
