Trichy railway division handled 41 million passengers in 2025-26
Trichy: Southern Railway's Trichy division handled 41 million originating passengers in the financial year 2025-26. It registered growth in freight operations and revenue generation, earning Rs 1,390.2 crore in the period with Rs 777.2 crore coming from freight handling.The division recorded passenger earnings of Rs 572.3 crore. It achieved freight loading of 13.2 million tonnes (MT), surpassing the 13MT-mark for the fourth consecutive year. Coal is the commodity that brought maximum earnings of Rs 537.9 crore, followed by food grains at Rs 112.9 crore and fertilizers at Rs 42.8 crore. The loading of fertilizers and food grains increased by 699% and 41% respectively, indicating spurt in agricultural yield reported in the Cauvery delta districts. The Trichy division operated 56 special trains to clear the festival rush. Despite a 4% increase in train operations, punctuality for mail/express trains was maintained at 94.4%, an improvement of 0.4% compared to the 2024-25 financial year. Parcel earnings were valued at Rs 6.9 crore, while ticket-checking earnings were pegged at Rs 13.3 crore. The electrification of the Thiruthuraipoondi-Pattukottai (49 km) section has been completed, and work is in progress between Pattukottai and Tiruvarur, it said. A penalty of Rs 17.5 lakh was collected from 8,124 defaulters for activities affecting the cleanliness of railway premises. "With a strong foundation of innovation, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement, Trichy division continues to set new benchmarks in performance and efficiency," divisional manager Balak Ram Negi said.
