Trichy: The DMK, which was holding fort in all nine assembly constituencies in Trichy district, is now finding itself in a precarious position with the entry of TVK leader Vijay and lottery baron Santiago Martin's family member Leema Rose Martin. Not to be outdone and intimidated by their opponents, the combined DMK Trichy district units convened an all-allies meeting on Wednesday, and pitched for unity in the alliance to win the election.
With Vijay in fray in Trichy East and Leema Rose Martin in Lalgudi constituency on AIADMK ticket, besides an ex-MLA and ex-MP in fray in other constituencies, DMK ministers K N Nehru and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi urged the alliance party functionaries to set aside their differences and work hard for the combined victory.
Trichy West candidate and DMK's principal secretary Nehru said that all candidates should get a list of in-charge members of every alliance party in their respective constituencies and should be in regular touch.
"Candidates should meet and respect the functionaries of the alliance parties throughout the election period. With star and wealthy candidates contesting in our district, only hard work can fetch victory," Nehru said.
School education minister and Thiruverumbur DMK candidate Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that party workers must coordinate with the local leaders in the alliance to win all nine constituencies in the district to help DMK recapture power.
District secretaries of north, central and south DMK Trichy units attended the meeting. They were asked to keep a close watch on disappointments, if any, brewing within the alliance due to communication gaps.
