Three killed, two injured in truck collisions in Trichy

Trichy: Two truck drivers died in a head-on collision between their vehicles in the early hours of Thursday near Trichy.The deceased were identified as R Ramarajan, 52, a resident of Karuppampatti in Trichy district and A Ajith Kumar, 24, from Valiyanthoppu in Salem district. According to sources, Ramarajan was transporting sugarcane bagasse (pulp) from Trichy to Salem, while Kumar was transporting vegetables from Salem to Trichy when the vehicles collided head-on. In the impact Ramarajan and Kumar died instantly. K Kalaiyarasan, 17, and N Manish, 32, who were accompanying Kumar, sustained serious injuries. Both trucks suffered extensive damage.Kalaiyarasan and Manish were taken to Trichy govt hospital. Vathalai police recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem examination.In a separate incident, a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed when a truck struck her on Wednesday evening. According to police, the deceased Vedhavalli, 35, was going with her husband D Dhanapal, 40, from Navalur Kuttapattu in Srirangam, on a motorcycle.While passing near Karumandapam on the Trichy-Dindigul Road, a concrete mixer truck travelling in the same direction collided with them.The couple sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Trichy govt hospital. Doctors declared Vedhavalli dead on arrival, while Dhanapal was admitted for treatment.Cases have been registered at Vathalai and Cantonment police stations under sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the relevant laws for rash driving, endangering human life, and causing death by negligence in connection with both accidents.
