Those ‘facilitating’ mosquito-breeding will face legal action: Vijaya Baskar

TRICHY: Struggling to control the

current spell of dengue

, the government on Monday issued a strict warning to owners of buildings that action would be taken against them if they failed to control the breeding of mosquitoes.

“If the sources of the mosquitoes are not controlled, the owners of the buildings will have to face legal action that will be initiated by us. We have already imposed fine on such people,” health minister

Dr C Vijaya Baskar

told mediapersons.

It may be recalled that the city corporation had recently imposed fines on a few residential apartments for keeping the surroundings conducive for mosquito breeding. To set an example, the state government had instructed all government departments to ensure that the sources of breeding were kept under check. “We have instructed all departments to conduct mass cleaning from 11 am to 12 noon on Thursdays,” said the minister.

Citing inter-departmental coordination to control the

dengue

, Vijaya Baskar said that the a total of 30,000 mazdoors were roped in already and the process was on to increase the number by 5,000. He said that 770 doctors with

RBSK

team, 416 hospitals on wheels, 350 health inspectors and 165 entomologists were pressed into action for source reduction activities.

The efforts of the public health department officials in creating awareness among the people to maintain their surroundings clean and ward off dengue fever had gone in vain. Hence, the health department had planned to conduct fever awareness camps in Trichy, Pudukkottai and Thanjavur where the minister visited.
