Chennai: VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Sunday said there were attempts to drive a wedge between
DMK and VCK. But those attempts would fail, he said.
At Chennai airport, Thirumavalavan told reporters that his remarks pulling up VCK cadres for poor election work in a few places was being blown out of proportion to project a lack of cooperation between DMK and VCK men.
"I spoke about it to discipline VCK cadres. But the remarks are being exaggerated to create rift in the alliance. But for those few places, VCK men worked hard everywhere," he said, adding that he was referring to complaints of poor poll work in ‘one or two' places.
"However, the hard work put in by our cadres and functionaries in other places was highly commendable. Even candidates of our alliance parties called me and appreciated their work," Thirumavalavan said.
He alleged that by targeting VCK, ‘some' are trying to create confusion in the DMK-led alliance. "VCK is targeted repeatedly, and some are trying to drive a wedge in the alliance. They made several desperate attempts to break the alliance, but VCK prevented everything. They will once again fail," he said.
He then hit out at exit polls that said actor-politician Vijay's TVK would win a majority of seats.
Thirumavalavan charged that north Indian companies backed by RSS were conducting exit polls. "It is a gamble. Such gambles are done across the world and now it is happening in Tamil Nadu in the name of Vijay. They will be disappointed after the results are announced," the VCK chief said.
