Style, speed mark candidates’ final pitch

Trichy: Candidates of major political fronts across the central region wrapped up their election campaigns with a last-minute push amid sultry weather on Tuesday, leaving it to the people to evaluate their performances. As many as five star campaigners, 20 door-to-door campaigns and 46 vehicular campaigns were permitted by Election Commission in the city, one of the highest ever.Star campaigners from various parties held multiple rallies in Trichy. DMK state propaganda secretary Dindigul Leoni campaigned for Thiruverumbur MLA Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Later in the day, Rajya Sabha MP Trichy Siva also canvassed for him. In AIADMK, deputy secretary (propaganda) Kaliyammal campaigned for Trichy East candidate K Rajasekharan, while director Udhayakumar and actor Saravanan campaigned for Srirangam candidate R Manoharan. Ministers K N Nehru and Mahesh campaigned thoroughly across the city covering Thiruverumbur, Sastri Road and E Pudur. DMK's Inigo Irudayaraj, who is taking on TVK leader actor Vijay in Trichy East, concluded his campaign at Chinthamani Anna statue. Meanwhile, TVK joint propaganda secretary Loyola Mani campaigned for the party's Srirangam candidate S Ramesh. As many as six processions were taken out by candidates, including Trichy West candidate minister Nehru, and AIADMK's P Kumar in Thiruverumbur. In addition, party cadres carried out multiple door-to-door campaigns, while independent candidates conducted vehicle campaigns. In Karur, candidates, including former minister M R Vijayabhaskar, DMK candidate M Thiagarajan accompanied by Senthilbalaji's brother, and TVK's V P Mathiazhagan, held campaigns. In Pudukottai, DMK candidates including Siva V Meyyanathan in Alangudi, S Regupathy in Thirumayam and BJP Pudukkottai candidate N Ramachandran carried out campaigns.
