TRICHY: The Trichy rural police have arrested seven people for selling liquor illegally and seized 350 bottles and six two-wheelers from them in Thiruverumbur on Tuesday night.
The Thiruverumbur police arrested Dhasarathan, 51, from Thanjavur, Santhosh, 23 from Maraneri, Sarath, 27, from Indhalur, Selvendran, 27, from Indhalur, Appu, 28, from Kadambakudi and Irduhayaraj, 27, from Kulakkarai and Rajendran, 53, from Vengudi area in Trichy during a late night raid.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team visited the Pathalapettai area and found them indulging in sale of liquor in black market near a Tasmac-run outlet. The team rounded them up and seized the liquor.
Police said that the gang used to buy the liquor from Tasmac shops and sell them to tipplers at higher prices after working hours. They also used to supply the liquor to those in interior villages. They used their vehicles to transport the liquor to the customers.
Police produced the accused in court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
